Ridge House in Sonoma

This single story hilltop house sits on a southeast slope of Sonoma Mountain, west of downtown Sonoma. The site has privacy and views that extend above the fog line and across the valley floor.
The design of the original house ignored the dramatic site, with small windows, low roofline, and limited access to outdoor space. The renovation raised ceiling heights throughout the main living areas with a deck cantilevering out towards the view. The existing bedroom wing anchors the house to the hillside, while entertaining spaces pinwheel above the slope. A box- like volume added to the front of the house creates connection between old and new forms, while focusing circulation on the surrounding landscape.
