After the owners lost their two-story home in the 2018 Nuns fire, they decided to rebuild, this time with a profound connection to the landscape and environment, and with fire resiliency front of mind. Each room connects to a unique part of the hillside, and the program including trails, terraced gardens, an outdoor kitchen, a rooftop overlook, and a stone patio with a hot tub. Throughout, we used fire-resistant materials—like metal roofing, dual-glazed windows, and stone— and created a perimeter of significant defensible space.
