Foundry Square is a collection of four 10-story mid-rise buildings located at Howard and First Streets, near the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco. The first of the four buildings, completed in 2003, announced a commercial revitalization of San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood. The structures, occupying each corner at First and Howard, provide a total combined interior area of 1,200,000 square feet. Christie Tyreus was part of the original 10 person design team of STUDIOS Architecture that developed the project from initial concept models, development and permitting, through construction.

The implementation of many sustainable design techniques, such as a double-wall curtainwall system facing the plazas, and self-shading elements on the building’s exterior, earned Foundry Square a commendation for innovative architecture and sustainability from the San Francisco mayor’s office. Building 2 is certified LEED Platinum for Existing Buildings and was featured in Architectural Record.
